Tie-back anchor

A rod or cable running from the back of a seawall into the ground behind it, holding the wall against the push of soil and water on the land side. At the wall end it connects to the cap or a horizontal beam; at the far end it is fastened to something that resists being pulled, such as a deadman, a buried anchor or a pile. Anchors corrode out of sight, and a failed one often shows up as a wall leaning toward the water or a cap that has rotated. A quote that includes new or replacement anchors should say how many, at what spacing, of what material, and the unit price for any extra anchors found to be needed once work starts.
