Deadman anchor

A buried block, usually concrete, set some distance behind a seawall, that a tie-back rod is fastened to. It works through the soil in front of it: as the wall tries to lean out, the rod pulls on the deadman and the soil resists. Because it sits under the yard, installing or replacing one often means digging up lawn, pavers, irrigation or part of a pool deck. That restoration is frequently listed as work by others in marine quotes, so it can fall to the owner. Before you sign, ask in writing who puts the yard back, and to what standard.
