What we own, what nobody owns, and how to send or answer a takedown notice.

Last updated 2026-10-02 · Version 2026-10-02

What we own

  • This site, its design, its text and its brand
  • Every guide, checklist and city sheet we publish
  • The Shore Score methodology and the reports it produces
  • Our compilation of the rule data — which requirements we selected, how we arranged and annotated them, the sources we cite, and the dates we verified them

What nobody owns

The ordinances themselves are not copyrightable. A municipal code is a government edict. Anyone may read it, quote it and republish it, and we would not want it otherwise — the reason we publish these figures is that they are public and hard to find, not that they are ours.

What is ours is the work of finding them, reading them correctly, writing down what they actually say, citing the section, and recording the date. That compilation is protected.

So: quote a figure, cite us, link to the page. Do not take the database.

How to cite us

Wall Dock Deck, "[page title]", walldockdeck.com, verified [date shown on the page].

Always carry the verification date. A rule without a date is how bad information spreads.

If we have used something of yours

If you believe something on this site infringes your copyright, tell us and we will take it seriously. Send a notice to the agent below.

What a notice must include

Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3):

  1. Your physical or electronic signature
  2. Identification of the work you say is infringed
  3. The URL or precise location of the material on our site
  4. Your address, telephone number and email address
  5. A statement that you believe in good faith that the use is not authorised by the owner, its agent, or the law
  6. A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the owner or authorised to act for the owner

Our designated agent

Javill Byron, d/b/a Wall Dock Deck 16300 SW 137th Avenue, Unit 128 Miami, FL 33177, United States hello@walldockdeck.com Subject line: DMCA notice

What we do with it

On a complete notice we remove or disable the material promptly and tell whoever posted it, with a copy of the notice.

If a notice is incomplete, we return it to you and say which element is missing, rather than ignoring it.

Counter-notices

Send to the same agent, including:

  1. Your physical or electronic signature
  2. Identification of the removed material and where it was
  3. A statement under penalty of perjury that you believe in good faith it was removed by mistake or misidentification
  4. Your name, address and telephone number
  5. Your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district — or, if you are outside the United States, for the district where our agent is located — and that you will accept service from the party who sent the original notice

If the original claimant does not file a court action within 10 business days, we may restore the material.

Repeat infringers

Three valid notices against the same person or business and we terminate their access and remove them from any network they are in.

Misuse

Knowingly misrepresenting that material is infringing — or that it was removed by mistake — creates liability for damages, including costs and legal fees, under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). We have the same obligation to be honest here that you do.

If someone is copying us

If you find our guides republished, our sheets rebranded, or our rule data lifted into someone else's product, we would like to know: hello@walldockdeck.com.

Every agreement and policy

All of them, in plain language.
