The official map of a community on which FEMA has delineated both the special flood hazard areas and the insurance risk premium zones (44 CFR 59.1). It is where a property's flood zone and base flood elevation come from. FEMA's Flood Map Service Center is the official public source for these maps, and you can search it by address. Maps are revised from time to time, so check the effective date on the map panel you are reading, and ask your city's floodplain office which map it is applying to your permit.
